Deer Fawn in an Enclosure

Here’s a brief clip from this week’s episode where a Michigan conservation officer in mid-Michigan encounters a whitetail fawn prancing around with goats and other farm animals.

"Honesty Goes A Long Way"

That’s the title of this week’s episode and it could probably be the name for just about every episode. Game Wardens can typically sense when something isn’t quite right and always encourage people to tell them the truth. Here’s a brief clip from this week’s show. It features Officer Brad Bellville talking to some hunters on the firearm deer opener.

Honoring Michigan's Fallen Conservation Officers

Since the first Michigan Game Warden came on the job in 1887, sixteen conservation officers have lost their lives in the line of duty. A segment from this week’s episode includes a dedication for these officers and their families in the form of a monument that was dedicated last spring. Here’s a link to that story:

March 15 is Conservation Officer Appreciation Day

Governor Whitmer has declared March 15 as a day to honor conservation officers in the state. As someone who has tagged along with quite a few of them in their patrol trucks, on their boats and jet skis and from a snowmobile, I can vouch for their knowledge and professionalism.

Here’s a brief clip from our Wardens episode that’s airing this week:

Airing this week on Wardens...

Michigan conservation officers patrol ice fishermen and snowmobilers as well as segments on a moose survey from a plane and a Stuff-A-Truck campaign to help underprivileged children.

Michigan Conservation Officer Sergeant Mark DePew on "The Revolution with Jim & Trav"

Sergeant Mark DePew of the Law Enforcement Division of the Michigan DNR was a guest on an outdoor radio program recently. He discussed the Wardens series and some of the things he’s encountered during his career. He also explained what it takes to become a CO in Michigan and gave information regarding the recruit school that the department will be having later this year. Check it out here by looking for the episode from Jan 28th:

Honoring First Responders on 9/11

Join us as we somberly remember the men and women who ran toward the danger for their fellow Americans.

Two More Stories of Michigan Conservation Officers Saving Lives

Around a month ago, three Michigan conservation officers were vital in rescuing a man who intentionally drove his Mercedes Benz into the Detroit River and didn’t want to be rescued. Nice work by Officers Bobby Watson, Dan Walzak, and David Schaumburger as well as Detroit EMS medic Jason Cornell.

Then just a few days ago, Officer Robert Slick helped save a woman from a burning home while he was off-duty. Thanks for your help. CO Slick.

As Chief Hagler says in the second article, “A conservation officer is never truly off-duty.”
